Icy Creations

The beautiful Ice Creations found around most Alaskan towns and cities sure can add so much sparkle to the long dark winter nights that we have. They are carved with so much detail and some of them have spotlights either inside them or behind them to illuminate them in either white lights like this one pictured below or with colors.

I cannot imagine putting so much time and energy into something so beautiful that will melt away in the warm spring sunshine, but I sure glad that someone else does not see it that way. Because I really appreciate seeing these beautiful creations and I respect and admire the artists.

There are some that are made to have fun in too. One year we had a beautiful Ice castle that you could walk into... it was awesome. A ice sculpture park; located in North Pole, Alaska called Christmas in Ice has about 4 different slides made out of ice that the kids or adults can actually use.

They are carved in detail out of solid blocks of ice. I took this photo of the monster Ice Slide of all times, it is awesome, you can climb up these stairs made of solid ice to slide down the longest ice slide I have ever seen. it is well lit up with colorful lights along the way.

Then you can slide down using your plastic sled or a rubber tire tube, or just sit on the ice and slide... burrrrrrrrr... down this long, long, long carved out ice slide that is festively lit up along the way.

This photo almost looks like it is a long staircase, but it is just huge ice blocks molded together and smoothed out into a long slide. With the colorful lights it almost looks like Northern lights on the ground.

It is hard to believe these beautiful Ice Sculptures are made from solid blocks of ice that are cut out of the frozen lakes nearby.

In most designs only one block is used, but in other designs two, three or more blocks are put together to give the design a beautiful "3D" effect or life-like sizes.

There are special ice carving tools used to create these highly detailed ice designs.

This is my favorite one of all times so far. This beautiful angel is so sparkily and smooth it looks like a glass sculpture instead of ice. The surrounding snow and lights bring out the full beauty of this ice angel I think.
