Summer Daze |
June 27, 2008Arcticulates ®Focusing on Alaska's BeautyAuthor: K. FieldsSummer DazeI am really starting to like this now, it is finally coming together, I will be adding more as I go. I have really learned a lot about html code while setting up this blog, I knew absolutely nothing about building a web page, html, xlm, jpgs etc. etc. 3 months ago. Whew! Who knew? I have to say blogging on Blogspot was so simple compared to this one, they are a very good blog host. So if anyone wants to just write and post that is one of the best ones to use! We just had our longest day of the year few days ago, now we are suppose to be losing daylight approximately 6 minutes a day. I went outside after midnight and took this picture. You can see the date and time stamp on it! Sun is Still Shining at 12:50 PM
Funny thing about where I live, when we get cloud cover, even with daylight hours practically 24 hours a day, with temps that reach the 90's in the summer season. The temps drop dramatically a good 40 degrees or more, then then when the clouds clear up and the sun pops up the temps go right back up. This is one of the reasons why everyone who has lived here long enough has learned to carry a jacket/coat in the summer whenever they are away from the house, it doesn't matter how hot it is outside, it can change in a few minutes. Today's Summer Temp
My flowers are still looking a little spindle-ly yet, but, they are starting to produce flowers. Yes! Besides working on this new blog domain, I have been putting in a garden. I ran a little late this year gettingthe plants into the ground because it still was too cold at night. So the garden got a 2 week late start, hope summer lasts longer this year! I planted all kinds of stuff, some will grow some maybe not, but it is fun to experiment. Cabbage, squash, green beans (maybe, if it warms up a little more), peas, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, green chili peppers (another maybe) zucchini. This is a new garden space, it still needs work, and I definitely will need to build a fence, a sturdy high fence, because the moose will wipe out a garden in a matter of hours, usually when the plants are close to harvest time. I had 30 cabbages planted one time, and they were ready to pick and that night a moose climbed over my fence and took a bite out of all but one cabbage. Ugh! Really made me happy thinking of moose stew that day!So since I can't get my fence up right away, I decided to build a scarecrow. It has worked so far. My Scare Crow in The Garden
To all those who are in your summer season and have gardens: HAPPY GARDENING! Later... K Fields See: Summer Daze!
